The software engineering firm Avantica is trying to establish what it calls “innovation labs” in San Carlos, the huge canton of Costa Rica. The idea behind the development and research laboratories is to encourage new procedures, products and services.
“Those who will have use of the laboratory,” explains Jose Pablo Rodriguez of Aventica Technologies of San Carlos, “have access to evaluation by professionals in the field and advice necessary for early development of a project.”
If found promising, the idea will have a feasibility study and develop a plan to implement it, he added. Then would begin a search for resources to continue the project.
La Nacion asked Rodriguez, Avantica general manager, what type of activities might be developed there, he explained to La Nacion that training workshops conducted by experts in business, creation of new products or services in digital technologies preferably with a positive impact on communities.
He hopes that both private businesses and universities will participate as well as local and national government. “Innovation Labs is part of the Avantica San Carlos strategy to promote provide leadership for digital technology in the Northern Zone,” he added.
Costa Ricans have long worried that rural zones have lagged behind in technology and cutting edge development participation while all the action has centered in the Central Valley.
