CCOSTA RICA SPORTS NEWS — Costa Rica qualified for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada after advancing to the CONCACAF Women’s final on Friday.
Costa Rica’s women’s team will play in their first World Cup after beating Trinidad and Tobago on penalties in the other semi-final after the match finished 1-1.
Rafael Vargas, Secretary of the elección Nacional Femenina de Costa Rica (Costa Rica soccer association), explained despite the history achievement, the FIFA does not give prizes as it does for men.
Vargas said that they are waiting on the FIFA to send the official regulations of tournament plane which will take place next in Canada.
“FIFA awards only for the men’s World games … there might be a prize for the winning women’s team, but nothing to the players, other than, food, lodging and transportation,” said Vargas.
Meanwhile in Fedefútbol say they are “very happy” about the women’s national team, as are the result of years of work, where the girls have gone through processes of minor league and will now have their day, a larger tournament.
