COSTA RICA TRAVEL – The cruise liner season in the Costa Rican Pacific began with the arrival Sunday of the Carnival Legend, with a capacity of 2.680 passengers and 930 crew.

The ship docked for a few hours at Puntarenas.

The Carnival Legen is operated by Carnival Cruise Line, making stops in Cartagena (Colombia), Puntarenas (Costa Rica) and San Lucas (Mexico).

According to a survey conducted by the Instituto Costarricense de Turimso (ICT) – Costa Rica’s tourism board, for the 2012-2013 season, almost 80% of the cruise passengers arriving in Puntarenas travelled in pairs, spending an average of US$63 per person and mainly from the United States and Canada.

To attract more cruise ships the ICT is implementing programs that include music, fashion and dance in coastal areas, with quality of products and added value services at the country’s ports, explained ICT head Wilhelm von Breymann.

Another objective of the ICT is provide enterpreneurship opportunities for local businesses in the tourism industry.
