The Tribunal Contencioso Administrativo has ordered the government to put a stop to all future payments to the Brazilian company, OAS, this after an appeal to the courts by the Foro Nacional.

The government of Laura Chinchilla settled with OAS to pay it US$45 million dollars for the cancellation of the concession contract for the San José – San Ramón road. The contract gave the Brazilian firm the concession for the rebuilding of the Bernardo Soto section of the Interamericana, converting to a four lane toll road.

On Thursday the government paid OAS an instalment of US$6.5 millionn dollars.

Both the government and Foro Nacional have three days to file their case.
