The number of murders of women in Costa Rica this year fell to almost half compared to the same period last year.
Between January and October of this year, the number of women murdered were 14, five of which died at the hands of their husbands or former partners, while in the same period last year the number was 26, according to the Ministerio de Seguridad Publica (MSP).
In 2011, there were 64 femicides.
Seguridad Minister, Mario Zamora, attributes the drop to the struggle for the rights of women as one of the focus of the operations objectives of the Fuerza Publica (police).
