COSTA RICA NEWS — Fourteen companies have registered to provide a service that up until now has been dominated by the state telecom, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), operating 97% of basic telephone lines.

pictBy June 15, 2015 at the latest, operating companies must be prepared to offer service and maintenance in porting numbers, as is done with cell phone lines

Crhoy.com reports that “… The Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones (Sutel) established a maximum date as high for operators to start providing the number portability service for landlines (fixed home or office phones), which is a right of the users.”

“… The service will be provided by the developer El Corte Ingles. Operators must perform port the number in a maximum of five days, once requirements have been submitted by the applicant.”

The process of changing over to another operator should be as simple as filing a request for the change. The El Corte Ingles currently provides number portability for the three cellular phone operators.
