The Alfredo González Flores bridge, best known as the “Platina”, on the autopista General Cañas, will be closed this weekend starting at 10:00pm Friday (May 12). The bridge will re-open to traffic at 5:00am Monday (May 15) morning.

The Ministry of Transport (MOPT) says the closure is needed to continue the work to completion, in this case required room for the heavy concrete mixers, “chompiras” in Spanish, to lay the concrete slab.

Mauricio Soajo, engineer at the CONAVI, said the bridge will be re-opened early if the work is completed ahead of time.

The “Platina” bridge, the bridge that keeps on giving headaches to drivers and everyone who living i or visiting the Central Valley, was to have been completed by the end of February, extended to March, then April, then not later than the middle of May.

Best to say the completion date now is whenever it is ready!
