Public sector employees from various unions began to gather this morning since 7am this Tuesday morning, heeding to a call by union leaders, to “come to downtown San José to manifest against the decretazo“.

The protest march will begin at the Parque La Merced, on the west end of the Avenida Segunda, and end at the Minsterio de Hacienda (Ministry of Finance), across the Teatro Nacional.

“I imagine it will be about noon when we will be outside the Hacienda”, said Albino Vargas.

Take into account that San José will be completely chaotic today.  Avoid going downtown unless you really have to.

A number of public institutions, like the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), the Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INC), the Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AyA) and the Ministerio de Educacion Publica (MEP), will be practically closed today.

Affected are the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) offices, as well as Caja doctors and clinics, who are expected to join the protest.

If you have to go to downtown San José today, arm yourself with patience. And best to call ahead to confirm any appointments.
