QCOSTARICA – A personal dispute appears to be the motive behind the drive-by shooting in Puriscal Wednesday night, when María de los Ángeles Fernández Artavia, 58, was hit by one of three bullets fired at the bedroom of her home.

One of the bullets impacted the woman in the knee while she was sleeping.

She is recoveing at the San Juan de Dios hospital in San Jose, after being attended at the local clinic in Puriscal, the Centro de Atención Integral de Salud (CAIS).

The police report says two men on a motorcycle opened fire at the woman’s home, around 10:30pm Wednesday, and then fled.

According to paramedics the woman had lost a lot of blood.

The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) is treating the case as an attempted murder and is investigating a man who is said to have a personal dispute with the victim. OIJ agents would not elaborate on the nature of the dispute.

Puriscal is a quiet town about 40 minutes southwest of San Jose, high atop the mountains.
