In an effort to curb the spread of Dengue, the Ministerio de Salud (Health Ministry) has drafted legislation that is expected to be presented before the current Legislative Assembly, that ends its term on May 1.

Under the initiative, Salud can use economic sanctions against those who do not comply with a health order to take measures to eliminate or destroy Dengue breeding grounds.

The fine could be as high as ¢266.000 colones.

Up to last week, the Health ministry has reported 1.483 cases of Dengue, Alajuela centre and Corredores (in the southern zone) with the highest number of cases.
