QCOSTARICA – The drill at the Daniel Oduber airport in Liberia, Guanacaste on Thursday simulated an air crash with 15 fatalities. The drill was in response to a flight with 56 passengers, skidding off the runway on takeoff, then catching fire.
The (simulated) alert came at 3:10pm, springing into action some 350 people from 17 different institutions. Participating were emergency response units from the communities of Santa Cruz, Hojancha, La Cruz, Cañas y Montes de Oro.
The emergency was contained in 40 minutes, leaving 15 dead, 8 badly injurer and 18 in stable condition.
According Aviación Civil (Civil Aviation), the stimulation cost ¢80 million colones.
