A total of 5.222 traffic tickets have been issued to drivers during Semana Santa, 44 of which are facing charges of drunk driving.

The Policia de Tránsito spokespersons, Angie Meneses, confirmed the numbers, adding that spot checks will continue throughout the weekend.

According to Meneses, among the violations were: speeding, driving without a license, not having the Riteve (vehicular inspection), not having safety devices ie. vest, triangles in the vehicles and careless driving.

Meneses said that the major focus is on the major roads from the beaches and resorts to the Central Valley, like the Ruta 27 or the San José – Caldera highway, which will continue today to be “reversible”, from Pozón to Cuidad Colón between 3pm and 6pm.
