QCOSTARICA – Though we are still weeks away from the start of the rainy season, the last couple of days it have been around parts of the Central Valley.

In particular was Sunday afternoon’s rains that felt like it was September.

According to national weather service, the Instituto Metereológico Nacional (IMN), weakening trade winds produced the strong downpours in the Central Valley on Sunday, especially on the west side of San Jose, in areas like Alajuela and Santa Ana.

However, that is all behind us now. Daniel Poleo, weather expert at the IMN, says that we will get less or no rain for the rest of this week due to increased trade winds, but may see sporadic rain returning starting Monday, April 25, when the transition to the rainy season begins.

Although the Central Valley will be spared, downpours are expected in the Caribbean slope and mountainous areas of the Northern Zone.

With the rainy season around the corner, this is a good time to clean the eavestroughs, patch up or paint the roof, and clear storm drains of debris, among other chores in preparation of the rains that expected to be part of daily starting by the end of May.
