The quickest way to get from beach towns like Montezuma, Mal País, Cóbano, Tambor and others to Puntarenas and back to the Central Valley is by Paquera and the ferry.

Well yes, but not during the mass return of vacationers, like yesterday when the waiting time to catch the ferry at Paquera for the ride to Puntarenas, the waiting time was two hours and more.

The Tambor II ferry carrying cars and passengers shuttles back and forth betweem the two ports. Normally it is just a matter of getting to the docks in time. The situation on Saturday, however, was completely different as thousands of vacationers had no choice but to be patient and wait their turn.

The alternative is a treacherous and long drive up to the Tempisque bridge and back down. And of course there is the option to fly, as both Nature Air and Sansa offer regular flights to and from Tambor, but only if you didn’t have your vehicle on the other side of Puntarenas.
