A 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook Costa Rica Sunday afternoon. The quake, with the epicentre located one kilometre northeast of Finca Georgina, Heredia, at 4:52pm local time and was felt throughout most of the country.

According to the Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (Ovsicori) the quake is due to a internal fault of the Cocos plate, an oceanic tectonic plate beneath the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of Central America, named for Cocos Island, which rides upon it.
