Q OPINION – “An honorarium is an ex gratia payment (i.e., a payment made without the giver recognizing himself as having any liability or legal obligation made to a person for his or her services in a volunteer capacity or for services for which fees are not traditionally required),” according to Wikipedia.
The Latin phrase is Ad honorem, that literally can be translated as “to the honor”
The motto should be, “The income is nothing, but the graft is wonderful!”
Or the new 1,161 mordita (Transito) force. (
Mordita (bite) is the word in Spanish used in Costa Rica for bribes.
This is absurd!
Why not advertise, as in most countries, pay a reasonable wage and try the old fashion way of recruiting Transit Police? Or, why not include the municipal and national police to enforce traffic violators. I mean how many bribes can we pay?
It is absolutely ridiculous to believe these officers will be on the up and up, especially when they have zero income. It is hard enough to get a fair shake when the traffic cop is earning a wage. We have sufficient corruption among law enforcement who are paid, no matter how meager.
This plan is just an invitation to more corruption and more and more law breaking.
Perhaps we should do this among our esteemed assembly members. No salary, just volunteer for the god of the country? How far and how long do you think that would go?
