The Applebee’s restaurant chain, whose franchise is operated in Costa Rica by Dine Brands, has closed its three locations in the country, arguing that there were problems of profitability.
Julio Villegas, operations manager of Applebee’s Costa Rica, confirmed to Elfinancierocr.com the suspension of franchise operations.
“Applebee’s Costa Rica will cease its presence in the country because the profitability of the chain has not been suitable for maintaining the operation. We have made this decision in the most responsible way taking into account the interests and needs of our 90 employees who have accompanied us for more than 10 years,” Villegas said.

Applebee’s opened in Costa Rica in 2009, the first in Momentum Lindora (in July 2016 moved to Terrazas Lindora), in 2010 opening in Plaza Carolina in San Pedro and in August 2012, opening the Plaza Bratsi, Heredia location.
The franchise initially operated in Costa Rica by Aguacero de Bendiciones S.A., it later passed to the hands of the Dine Brands (formerly IHOP – International House of Pancakes), a publicly traded food and beverage company based in Glendale, California, which also manages the restaurants.
