Authorities seize a ton of cocaine in a boat in Puntarenas

The Ministry of Security reported that during the month of August they have managed to seize 2,147 kilos of cocaine and arrested 13 people in total

On Wednesday, authorities in Costa Rica seized just over a ton of cocaine in a vessel 54 nautical miles off the coast of Puntarenas.

The seizure occurred thanks to a joint operation of the Ministerio de Seguridad Pública, Servicio Nacional de Guardacostas, Servicio de Vigilancia Aérea, (Ministry of Public Security, National Coast Guard Service, and Air Surveillance Service), among other institutions.

Authorities intercepted the fishing vessel “Claudius Prince” with 1,002 kilos of cocaine and four people aboard.

Two of them were Costa Ricans with surnames López Ávalos, 45 years old and with a criminal record, and Espinoza Álvarez, 34, without a record.

The other two men, both of Nicaraguan nationality, were identified as Flores Zamora, 33, with a criminal record and Mejía Sambrano, 44, with no record.

During this month (August), the Ministry of Public Security, reports the seizure 2,147 kilos of cocaine and 13 people detained.
