QCOSTARICA – If you are out looking for a Whopper today, forget it, Burger King shut down its doors this morning of all 29 restaurants in the country, leaving 434 people of out work.
According to the company in Costa Rica, the closure of operations in the country is by a unilateral decision by the parent company.
The decision was due “to a lack of agreement on how to operate the local franchisee (BK Costa Rica), of which the BKC US is a shareholder,” said the statement.
“BK Costa Rica guarantees the payment of all labour obligations to all its employees, as established by local laws, although BKC US refuses to provide the funds for the settlement,” the company said.
The company added that it welcomes mediation from the Government of Costa Rica, especially the participation from the Minister of Foreign Trade, Alexander Mora, in an effort to issue a “no closure” order of its operations in the country.
Earlier this year, in March, the Q reported Is Burger King Leaving Costa Rica? when the company closed four restaurants, putting 39 people of out work.
