According to the company in Costa Rica, the closure of operations in the country is by a unilateral decision by the parent company.

The decision was due “to a lack of agreement on how to operate the local franchisee (BK Costa Rica), of which the BKC US is a shareholder,” said the statement.

“BK Costa Rica guarantees the payment of all labour obligations to all its employees, as established by local laws, although BKC US refuses to provide the funds for the settlement,” the company said.

The company added that it welcomes mediation from the Government of Costa Rica, especially the participation from the Minister of Foreign Trade, Alexander Mora, in an effort to issue a “no closure” order of its operations in the country.
