QCOSTARICA – Costa Rica’s cable television and internet operator, Cabletica, will deploy broadband services with speeds of up to 100 Mbps using a Fiber to the home (FTTH), also called “fiber to the premises” (FTTP), network in Cartago, reports El Financiero.
The network will reach the districts of San Rafael de Oreamuno and in El Tejar de El Guarco, before being extended soon to Paraiso.
Jose Gutierrez, manager of new business at Cabletica says that with this service customers can watch HDTV with 4K technology as well as video conferencing or video calls, Play now and use smart home applications.
As for rates, Cabletica says that “the commercial offer is the same as conventional Internet service” and thus assures customers “higher speeds without having to overpay.” Gutierrez further stressed that the network provides “greater stability”.
Other operators as Coopelesca in San Carlos, Coopeguanacaste, Claro, the ICE, Boomerang Wireless and others have also announced FTTH.
It is expected that the expansion of FTTH services will improve broadband connectivity in Costa Rica, which has been lagging behind internationally, in this field as the biggest breakthrough in other countries.
Cabletica said their FTTH coverage will reach 46,000 households in nine areas of Cartago and it hopes to extend the offer to other districts later.
