QCOSTARICA – In 2013, 27% of the marriages in Costa Rica were in a Catholic church, while in 2000 the number was 43%.
In real numbers, the drop went from 10,500 Church weddings in 2000 to just a little over 7,000 thirteen years later.

Meanwhile, civil marriages have increased, from 13,900 in 2000 to 18,700 in the 2013.
That is, for every five marriages in 2013, four were civil and one Catholic. The ratio in 2000 was one to one.
This reflects a change in the trend towards a loss of confidence in the Catholic church.
