“Our little country has been built under a huge history of effort of all its people. We pay tribute to the effort of those people for which today we are Costa Rica. Long live the homeland,” where the worlds of Carlos Alvarado on Sunday, during the placing an offering at the Monumento Nacional (National Monument).

Throughout the country, Costa Ricans celebrated the day full of tradition, another year of independence of a country that continues to be a regional model of democracy.

In his speech Saturday night, in Cartago, receiving the Antorcha (torch of independence), President Alvarado said: “Times are complex in the country and in the world, however, I know we can and we will go ahead. It’s in our Costa Rican DNA to be a country that overcomes with the effort of its people.”
