For Claro mobile customers who want to travel around the world and continue communicating with the same number, the company now offers “roaming” catering to specfic needs, voice and data.
Claro breaks down their roaming service into three regions:
- CENAM- Central America, that covers Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica
- AMX-America Movil – this is the world of Claro that includes Mexico, Panama, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Uruguay
- WORLD- that covers North America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania countries that have roaming agreements with Claro.

Claro’s roaming service means that you can use to make and receive calls from the same phone number or change or programming of the SIM card. This eliminates missed calls from people who don’t know you are travelling and don’t have your local number.
But, its not cheap.
Roaming plans for data (internet connection) start from ¢4.800 colones for 150MB in Central America to ¢62.400 for up to 500MB for Claro’s world.
Roaming plans for voice and SMS (text messaging) start at ¢3.800 colones for 25 minutes in Cental America to ¢20.700 for 100 minutes in Europe. Additional minutes (without renewing the plan) is from US$40
Connecton ithout a plan is also available, but expensive, with rates starting at US$0.60 in Central America to US$2.50 for calls to the World.
