QCOSTARICA – If you are heading out or live in La Sabana and Pavas, keep in mind that this the last day of the year is time for the “Clásica San Silvestre”.

The Silvestres is foot rave that starts converts the main Pavas road from La Sabana to the US Embassy and then back on the Boulevard through Rohrmoser back to the Sabana park, into a race track.

The 10.4 kilometre route means road closures and traffic congestion through the area, that will continue until at least noon.

The San Silvestre race is the name of races popularly held on December 32 in different parts of the world. The name comes from San Silvestre day according to the Catholic calendar.

The first San Silvestre was held in Sao Paolo, Brazil in 1925, starting from 11:40pm on the December 31 and ended the morning of January 1, 1926.

Today, the annual race takes places worldwide including Italy, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia and Costa Rica.
