QCOSTARICA – Winds gusts Monday afternoon reached 80 km/h in the Central Valley (up tp 100 km/h in some area of Guanacaste), dropping temperatures at high altitudes.
For example, in the hills of Santa Ana, the temperature at 6:00am was 14 Celsius (57 Farenheit) Tuesday morning. One report noted the wind chill factor made it feel like -1 C (30F). That’s cold, baby!
According to the National Meteorological Institute (Meteorológico Nacional – IMN), the rafagas (wind gusts) hitting most of Central America and the Caribbean, are expected to start declining on Thursday.
In the Central Valley, in Pozos de Santa Ana, for example, the strong winds downed power lines. In other areas there have been reports of fallen trees and tree branches.
One of those cases as in Quitirrisi, canton de Mora, a fallen tree last night kept the Puriscal-San Jose road closed for more than an hour.
Up to now there have been no reports of problems at the country’s airports, the wind gusts not affecting flight schedules.,
