QCOSTARICA – The National Highway Council – Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi) – will be extending for 12 months road maintenance contracts worth us$151 million because of the inability to carry out new tenders.
It is the second consecutive time that the National Roads Authority (COSEVI) has requested authorization from the Comptroller General of the Republic to extend for 12 months highway maintenance contracts.
According to a Crhoy.com report, national companies like Meco, Hernán Solís, Quebradores del Sur, Consorcio Orosí and Conansa have been able to take advantage of these contracts for the last five years, after wining three year tenders in 2010.
But this may be the last extension, the Comptroller’s office (Contraloría General de la República – CGR), said the bidding process should be carried out next year, and the amounts authorized cannot be used for new construction.
