Costa Rica president Carlos Alvarado, in a show of leadership of his government’s push to reduce “pensiones de lujo” – high pensions of government officials, renounced his pension as former President when he leaves office on May 9, 2022.
In an interview with Telenoticias, Alvarado, who will be 42 at the of his term, said he will present my note to the Department of Pension Labor Ministry, giving up some ¢4 million colones a month.

“Pensions are to protect and not to enrich … I till take to the streets and earn my living,” said Alvarado.
