QCOSTARICA – Delegates from social movements, students, trade unionists and others will meet tomorrow in the frame of the Social Meeting for the “Patria Grande” (Great Homeland), to take place at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), organizers confirmed.
Several South American presidents are expected to go to the event, because the meeting will coincide with their stay in the country due to the celebration of the Third Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), January 28th and 29th, they added.
Presidents of Uruguay and Bolivia, José Mujica and Evo Morales, respectively; are invited to the meeting, which can be attended also by Nicolas Maduro, president of Venezuela, according to the digital newspaper El Pais.
The publication refers to the head of the legislative faction of the party Frente Amplio (FA), Gerardo Vargas, who stepped out against those who question the eventual assistance of presidents of progressive countries of the continent to the forum of social movements.
These criticisms, he said, respond to fear from capitalists to see how left groups are growing within the governments.
He said that for the FA the exchange is as an opportunity for the Costa Rican people to learn more about the type of government that exists in the southern part of Latin America.
According to the newspaper, the Social Meeting for Patria Grande will include multiple cultural activities all day.
