COSTA RICA NEWS – Costa Rica’s Drug Control Police (Policía de Control de Drogas – PCD) report an historic seizure of 4.1 tones of cocaine after intercepting three boats.

Never before have Costa Rican authorities made such a sized drug seizure in one single operation.

The three boats, with 11 Costa Ricans aboard, were travelling from Punta Burrica, Quepos and Matapalo.

The PCD says the boat named Capitán Bachana was intercepted southeast of Punta Burica, was found to be carrying 1.9 tons of drugs. The second, a boat named Cabo Kiyomi, travelling in waters near Quepos was carrying 1 ton of cocaine. The third boat, the Kimberly, was intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard, near Cabo Matapalo and carring 1.2 tons of cocaine.

Police report that none of the 11 detained had previous criminal histories.
