A Father and his two sons were arrested by the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) on Thursday, suspected of prostituting women at a strip club (they are called night club in Costa Rica) located in Guapiles, Limon.

From OIJ

The club had been open for only the last four months when OIJ agents swooped in and effected the arrest of Arroyo Carmona (56), and his sons Arroyo Morales (19) and Arroyo Jiménez (20).

According to the judicial authorities, the previous week they received an alert that women who offered sexual services in exchange for money worked in the club, warranting an investigation, where they found that the women would charge US$50,000 for one hour of sexual services, to which they would split half with the accused.

“When the services were less than an hour, they would also share equally,” the Judicial Police informed through its press office.

In the police action, OIJ agents found ledgers, cash related to the sexual services, and eight women of which one was a Costa Rican and seven Nicaraguan nationals illegal in the country.

The club was shut down.

From OIJ

In Costa Rica, Article 169 of the Penal Code punishes with a prison term of between two and five years “whoever promotes the prostitution of persons of either sex, induces them to exercise it, keeps them there or recruits them for that purpose”.

The law does not prohibit prostitution, rather pimping (proxenetismo in Spanish).
On May 17, the OIJ captured a couple as suspects of the crime of pimping inside a clandestine bar in San Ramón de Alajuela.
