FIA 2017 Kicked Off With A Flying Circus, Music and The Tango

TODAY COSTA RICA – Thousands came out Thursday were dazzled by the open air music, aerial circus and the tango to kick off the Festival Internacional de las Artes (FIA 2017) in the heart of the capital city.

The inauguration took place in the Plaza de la Democracia and Avenida Segunda in downtown San Jose, under clear skies. Rare for the rainy season.

Although there was activity all around the Plaza, the focus was on the main stage at the opening concert of the Sinfónica Juvenil (Youth Symphony) under the direction of the baton of Andrea Merenzon, of the first presentation of Argentine composer and producer, Gustavo Santaolalla.

Between the music and tango of Mora Godoy company, there were brief segments of protocol speeches, including those of the Minister of Culture, Sylvie Duran and of President Luis Guillermo Solis.

In the Tango Remix, the Argentinian Mora Godoy insinuated a sensual milonga and ended up doing pirouettes to the rhythm of electronic mixtures of tango.

In his presentation, Godoy played the part of a Diva: docile, fierce and energetic in her movements.

After a series of choreographies with traditional music, the company paused for the dancer to invite President Solis to the stage. The couple started off their dance with the tango but, soon, switched to a reggaeton by Maluma with Thalía.

This was not the first time for Godoy to take the stage with a head of state, she did the same in March 2016, in a duet with former U.S. President, Barack Obama, on a visit to Argentina

Thursday was also Godoy’s 44th birthday, for that she was presented with a cupcake and a candle in celebration.

The Festival of the Arts is a program of the Ministry of Culture whose objective is: “To promote, disseminate, strengthen and promote Costa Rican artistic production as a generating activity for development, through the organization of national and International multidisciplinary “.

The first FIA, the named Festival Internacional de Teatro, with the tagline “San José por la Paz” (San Jose For Peace), took place in 1989.

In 1992, the Ministry of Culture made the program permanent, renaming it “Festival de las Artes” (Festival of the Arts).
