platina-abril-2015-1QCOSTARICA – Was it a delayed April Fools joke, the announced closure of the autopista General Cañas, to repair one side of the bridge?

The closure of the highway, at the bridge over the Virilla river, never took place last night (Tuesday), a last minute decision by the Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi).

The closure will, however, take place tonight (Wednesday) says the Conavi.

The Alajuela – San Jose bound lanes over the “Platina” bridge will be closed from 10:00pm to 5:00am Thursday, so that crews can repair the metal plate that came loose last Sunday.

Traffic, we are guessing here since the Conavi makes up things as they go along, on the west side of the highway closed at Cariari, diverting traffic through come out in La Uruca. On the east side, we are guessing the closure will take place at the Juan Pablo II bridge.

If you can, avoid the area completely, use the Ruta 27 to/from La Sabana.
