The Hospital Mexico is located in La Uruca, on the autopista General Cañas

QCOSTARICA  –  The medical staff and division heads at the Hospital Mexico have put health authorities on alert as to conditions at the hospital, claiming that the situation is critical and threatening to go on strike if things don’t improve.

Pastor Pacheco, chief of Reconstructive Surgery told Diario Extra “The situation is unsustainable.  We have 5,000 biopsies on the waiting list. We just don’t know what to say to cancer patients, who cannot have their surgeries. They are in anguish and we can’t do anything.”

He also stated that only 1 operating room is available, when previously 15 were functioning, the waiting list has inflated from 7,000 to 9,000 patients, and the hospital would need 21 operating theaters to satisfy the demand.

The hospital only has one TAC machine for tests, officials are asking for action from the Caja de Seguro Social (CCSS) to provide patients with the necessary infrastructure, equipment, budget, and human resources to attend their needs in a reasonable fashion.
