QCOSTARICA | ICE, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad, is having a fire sale on its used vehicles, more than 200, with prices on cars starting at ¢22,000 colones, (US$41).
The vehicles at incredible prices are motorcycles, cars, SUVs, minibuses and ATVs.
For example, the state power and telecom utility has several 1200cc pickup trucks for a base auction price of ¢22.000 colones or two motorcycles for ¢9.660, but can be bought individually for ¢4.830 each. No misprint.
Toyota Hilux 4×4 pick ups start at ¢65.320, Land Cruisers have a base price of ¢103.960. ICE has a whole bunch of these.
The vehicles are being sold at auction, so the final price may be much higher than the base price.
Mario Sanchez Vega, coordinator of fleet management at ICE, said for the most part these are vehicles no longer in circulation and include model years 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010.
Vega added that many of the vehicles have not been used for some time and are not guaranteed to work, stressing most interest from buyers will probably for used parts.
“These are vehicles have been sitting idle for some time … but some only need a push to start,” said Vega.
Vega explained that the vehicles have been de-registered and with clean title. And completely tax free.
The auction will take place on February 11.
Those interested in the action must register at the Rincón Grande de Pavas ICE plant, 400 metres west of the Demasa, where the vehicles are store and can be inspected once the list is published in the ICE “Proveeduría” page.
A seat at the auction requires costs ¢100.000 colones, a maximum of 300 seats are available.
The cumulative appraisal value of the 220 vehicles is ¢67 million colones.
