COSTA RICA NEWS – Internet operators say they services will not be affected this weekend by the scheduled maintenance work on the Maya-1 submarine cable.
On Wednesday the Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones (SUTEL) announced that users of mobile and fixed internet may have their services partially or temporarily totally affected starting Friday night to Monday morning.
Despite the Sutel announcement, all three operators say users should not see any connection problems.
Carolina Sanchez, spokeswoman for Claro Costa Rica, said on ADN Radio on Thursday that the operator has six additional high capacity international connections, ensuring continuity of service and network uptime.
For its part, Telefonica announced Thursday night that its Movistar network has backup routes to minimize any service interruptions cause by the Maya-1 maintenance.
The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) has connections with Maya-1 and Arcos cables in the Caribbean and the Pan-American Crossing in the Pacific, saying that its business clients will be temporarily re-directed from the Maya-1 to the other services and has increased connection capacity to mitigate any “latency” or delay in all internet services.
