Without precedent, the Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN) presidential candidate, Johnny Araya, announced he will not continue with the presidential campaign.

“The election campaign will continue, as mandated by law, but I will not be taking part in meetings and political activities…”, Araya told a packed ballroom at the Coribici hotel.

Araya said it is not conscionable to spend millions on a campaign, nor would he resort to unethical and underhanded tactics to sway the popular vote.

Following the reading of his prepared statement, Araya said he would not be taking questions from the press, rather saying “this is not adios” (goodbye), but rather, “hasta luego” (’til later), leaving  the stage and the questions for campaign manager, Antonio Alvaro Desantis.
