(QCOSTARICA) Driving to and from San Jose and points west to Heredia, Alajuela and the airport will get complicated given that the Juan Pablo II bridge (near the Hospital Mexico) on the autopista General Cañas will be closed to traffic on Sunday.
The closure, according to the Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi) will be from 6:00am to 4:00pm.
From Alajuela, drivers can get off the La Uruca exit, through the rotonda and back on the autopista. From San José, take the Heredia exit, through the rotonda and back on the autopista, ahead of Immigration.
The closure is to carry out “maintenance work” on the structure, as it presents significant deterioration due to the high traffic volume (and lack of a proactive maintenance program for many years, but you won’t hear that from the CONAVI).
Given the closure is on a Sunday, little or no traffic congestion is expected. However, it is recommended, if possible, to use alternate routes and avoid the area completely.
