(QCOSTARICA) Despite a request by the Prosecutor’s office (Fiscalía Adjunta de Probidad, Transparencia y Anticorrupción) for three months preventive detention, the Goicoechea Court in San Jose – the Juzgado Penal de Hacienda, released without any conditions, the head of the regional office of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) in Quepos, Puntarenas, who was arrested Wednesday.
The press office of the Poder Judicial confirmed the release of the official named Solano at the conclusion of the hearing that began shortly after 9:00am Thursday.
Solano was arrested Wednesday for alleged crimes of abuse of authority and the illegal detention of three U.S. citizens, one a minor, last May 8. Another man, identified by his last name Corrales, a civilian, who was also charged in the case, for helping Solano, was also freed.

According to official information, Judge Yorleny Campos Campos said that after reviewing the proposal submitted by the prosecutors and defence on the progress of the investigation, she found no grounds to order a preventive detention.
Lead prosecutor, Patricia Badilla, told the press Thursday afternoon that she has appealed the decision. Now, the case will go to the Tribunal Penal de Hacienda, to confirm the release or impose any injunction against the defendants.
