Costa Rica’s immigration police on Thursday arrested, a man identified by his last name Gamboa Guzmán, at the San Jose (SJO) minutes after he arrived on a flight from Spain.

Gamboa, who happens to be the maternal uncle of Keylor Navas, was detained as he checked in to immigration, wanted for fraud, apparently misleading several people with false claims that he would have to get the trips and tickets to soccer matches in Spain, the same team Navas plays for.

Gamboa, 36, had an arrest warrant against him by the Fiscalía Adjunta del I Circuito Judicial de Guanacaste, in Liberia.

According to a report in La Teja, on November 12, 2018, a doctor with the last name Roldan, filed a complaint against Gamboa. The doctor said in his complaint that he paid Gamboa ¢10 million colones for trips to Spain with his wife and other family members, which never occurred.

Apparently, Gamboa refunded some of the money, but not the totality. Apparently, the suspect also offered trips to Ibiza, Spain, to the summer residence of Captain Sergio Ramos, Navas’ companion.
