The thirs summit of the CELAC in Costa Rica
The third summit of the CELAC in Costa Rica

QCOSTARICA – Half of the Heads of State and Government representatives visiting Costa Rica to participate in the Third Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) are expected to arrive in the country today (Tuesday).

On Wednesday and Thursday, the summit that is being held at the Pedregal Convention Centre in Belén, will receive the remaining 32 delegations.

According to confirmations received by the CELAC, on Tuesday we can see the arrival of presidents: Salvador Sánchez  of El Salvador, Raul Castro of Cuba, Evo Morales of Bolivia; Michele Bachelet of Chile, and prime ministers: Gaston Brown of Antigua and Barbuda, Samuel Hinds of Guyana, Portia Simpson Miller of Jamaica, Kamal Persa- Bissesar and Perry Christie of Trinidad and Tobago.

On Wednesday, among the confirmed arrivals are the presidents: Juan Carlos Varela of Panama, José Mujica of Uruguay, Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, Danilo Medina of Dominican Republic, Rafael Correa of Ecuador; Michel Martinelly of Haiti, and Dilma Rousseff of Brazil.

Still to confirm are Venezuela’s president, Nicolas Maduro, Otto Perez Molina of Guatemala, Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, and Juan Orlando Hernandez of Honduras.

Expected not to attend are Cristina Fernandez of Argentina, Enrique Peña of Mexico and Ollanta Humala of Peru. According to press reports, they will are expected to remain at home to address problems in their respective nations.

President Luis Guillermo Solís plays host to the summit.

For the first day, it is expected that the members will subscribe to the Declaration and the Plan of Action that deals with some 25 issues such as the fight against poverty and corruption in the region.

Costa Rica holds the pre-tempore president, which will be transferred to Ecuador at the close of the summit.
