Costa Rica’s legislators unanimously agreed to honour the national football team, La Selección, for its impressive campaign in the 2014 World Cup.
Costa Rica made history by beating Greece last Sunday and advancing to the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time. They face the Netherlands on Saturday.
Continuing with the honour, legislator for the Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN), Paulina Ramírez, introduced a bill to declare June 20 a national holiday, commemorating La Sele’s win over Italy, qualifying the team to the round of play. It was also on June 20 in 1990 that La Sele defeated Sweden and qualified, for the first time, to the next round of play.
