COSTA RICA NEWS – Costa Rica’s lawmakers, with none of the typical bantering, accusations and discussion, have voted themselves by unanimous vote a vacation. It will be from December 19, 2014 to January 19, 2014.
In reality, the actual vacation period for legislators is 17 working days, when taking in to account weekends and statutory holidays, like Christmas Day and New Years.
legislators also voted to take off only Good Thursday and Good Friday for the 2015 Semana Santa (Easter) period.
When compared to past legislative groups, this one can be said is made up of workaholics.
For his part, President Luis Guillermo Solís, told the press that he won’t be taking traditional holidays like his predecessors, preferring to stay in the country and work from home during the days that Casa Presidencial (Government House) is closed.
Solís will be travelling to Brazil on January 1, however, to attend the inauguration ceremony of Dilma Rousseff, the re-elected president of that country. In a frank commentary before the television cameras, Solís questioned the common sense of having a political event such as an inauguration of New Year’s day.
