Today is a big day for Luis Guillermo Solís of the Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) and the country.
The presidential candidate, who is expected to be elected president before the day is over, started his day brightly, speaking to his children (one living in Canada, the other in the U.S.) and a breakfast with the family in Costa Rica. Solís then headed to the Catedral Metropolitana, for the morning mass.
Otto Vargas of La Nacion, who has been following the candidate since this morning, reports a confident Solís who expects at least one million votes (1/3 of the voters). Solís says he has no contact with PLN candidate and rival, Johnny Araya.
At the Catedral, the morning mass was officiated by San José Archbishop, José Rafael Quirós. “We hope to see the country moving forward…the task awaiting the future rulers is great…”, were the words of Quirós.
The election day morning mass is traditionally attended by the presidential candidates. Given that Araya is has withdrawn from campaigning and preferring to spend day at home, out of the election limelight, filling in for PLN Araya this morning was PLN vice-presidential candidate, Jorge Pattoni.
