Thousands intent on beating the massive exodus from San José to the beaches and resorts for Semana Santa (Easter Week) found themselves in a massive traffic jam on the Ruta 27 – the main route to the Pacific coast.
Given that today Friday is a national holiday, it seems all had the same idea.
Marisa, who is getting married this afternoon in Playa Hermosa (Puntarenas), told the Q she was surprised at the morning hour traffic jam. “I some many things to do for this afternoon and this is not going to spoil my day”, Marisa (whose last name she asked not to be revealed) told us by telephone around 9:50am.
According to Marisa, traffic this morning was moving an average of 20 km/h. The typical 75 minute drive to Jacó took her over two hours, she confirmed after her arrival in Jacó.
The Policia de Tránsito reported heavy traffic on the Ruta 27 since the early hours of the morning, meanwhile the Interamericana Norte (Ruta 1) through Cambronero was without any congestion.
Transito reports that traffic on the Ruta 32, the road to Limón from San José, is average, but drivers should take extra caution due to bad weather conditions primarily through the area of the Zurqui, in the Braulio Carrillo national park.
