(QCOSTARICA) Arcos Dorados, the owner of the McDonald’s franchise in Costa Rica, rules out the closure of any restaurants in the country.
The company says the closings in the United States does not affect operations in the country.
Martha Arango, manager of corporate communications in Panama and Costa Rica, said “the announcements in the U.S. do not affect local operation, in contrast, in Costa Rica the chain continues with outstanding performance and this year will celebrate 45 years of providing its customers quality, cleanliness and distinguished service.”
Arcos Dorados (Spanish for golden arches) is the largest operator of McDonald’s restaurants in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Company’s sales reached US$3.7 billion in 2014, and more than 95,000 employees. Arcos Dorados operates or franchises more than 2,100 McDonald’s-branded restaurants serving approximately 4.3 million customers in 20 countries and territories (Argentina, Aruba, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Ecuador, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela).
In Costa Rica, the chain has 55 restaurants, employing 1,900 people.
Faced with declining sales and increased market competition, last week McDonald’s announced it will close 700 restaurants worldwide this year for the first time in four decades.
