The protests this morning by students and municipal workers is only a prelude to what is expected to come our way next week, warns Albino Vargas, head of one the most powerful public worker’s unions.
Vargas Tweeted the protest in front of the Ministerio de Hacienda (Ministry of Finance) this morning in downtown San Jose is only “un calientamento” (a warm-up) to what is to come our way next week.
The head of the Asociación de Empleadors Publicos y Privados (ANEP) has called for a national strike that includes teachers, public health workers, truckers and municipal workers, among others, to take to the streets from July 22 to 26.

In addition, a group of truckers is expected to park outside Casa Presidencial (Government House) in Zapote, on Wednesday, July 16.
Vargas is calling for the resignation of Finance Minister Rocio Aguilar and against a reform to the Municipal Code that is making its way through the legislative process.
