With more than 6,000 registrations of brigades and citizens on the simulacrosimulacro.cr website, it is estimated that more than one million people will be evacuated from their homes, schools and work today, Monday at 10 am, in search of a safe place where they can protect themselves in case of an earthquake.
This was confirmed by Alexander Solis, executive president of the National Emergency Commission (CNE), which will lead the Primer Simulacro Nacional.
“What we expect is that people apply the steps we have defined (in the drill), register, prepare, evacuate and report. Of the total registered, almost 17,000 are people with disabilities ” said Solis.
The data will allow the CNE to know how many people were evacuated, from where and redouble efforts at the sites identified as the most vulnerable.
The majority of registered are from the four provinces of the Greater Metropolitan Area (San José, Alajuela, Heredia and Cartago), but there will be participation throughout the country. If these people downloaded the simulacro.cr application, a signal will arrive on their cell phone when the simulation starts.
The drill is expected to last between 10 and 30 minutes.
