According to the report by the Red Sismológica Nacional (RSN) – National Seismological Network – the activity began around 2:00 am, with cameras capturing the plume rising above the active crater at the break of dawn.

The Observatorio Vulcanólogico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (Ovsicori) – Volcanological and Seismological Observatory – reported low wind speed, about 1 km/h, allowing the plume to reaching a greater height.

“The wind turbidity according to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) is very small, less than one kilometer per hour in the area, making it easier for the pen to rise. The direction is towards the west,” said the Ovsicori in a statement.

The volcano’s activity intensified during Semana Santa, on April 13 last when visitors to the national park were evacuated and forcing its closure closed indefinitely, and the creation of a 2.5 kilometer safety perimeter established around the erupting crater.

On Good Friday (April 14), the volcano registered its most important eruption in 64 years, spewing rock and ash and a plum that exceeded 3 kilometers in height.

Since, the colossus has been relatively calm.
