QCOSTARICA – Like the Canadian Mounties, the OIJ in Costa Rica always get their man (or at least they try), as in the case of the suspected murderer of Yurey Lucial Garcia, found in the back of her father’s SUV, on the sixth floor of a San Pedro parking lot, with two bullets to the head.
The detention occurred in Yolijal de Upala, Thursday morning.
A joint operation by the Fuerza Publica (police) and the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) led them to the suspect identified by his last name, Baez (33 years of age), staying with friends, and presumably trying to cross the northern border, bound for Nicaragua.
The body of the 33-year-old woman found in the rear of a Nissan XTrail on Tuesday night, after police were alerted of traces of blood in front of a property in Bello Horizonte de Escazú and witness accounts of an armed man and a woman on the ground.
The night before the murder, Yurey had told her boyfriend she had received threats, the young woman’s brother told police. “I know the night before the murder he (Baez) had threatened her, because she mentioned it to her current boyfriend, that she had received threats,” said Jeffry García.
“We did not know him. He, at some point, some time ago, he had a relationship with my sister, but he never came to the house. I know that a month ago he was in the gym where my parents are, where I suspect, he got the address to my parents house. He arrived there 22 days ago, I remember that day because I was in my parents house visiting them with my wife and my sister got nervous, met him at the gate of the house, ” recalled Jeffry.
“We noticed her nervous and did not know who he was. My wife said that she felt something wrong with this guy, but we did not give it much importance, unfortunately, ” Garcia said.
