QCOSTARICA – The Policia de Transito (traffic police) and the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) have been busy the last couple of days, attending a series of traffic accidents, like the one between a bus and a passenger vehicle, on Saturday, in Guadalupe.

Officials report seven of the people injured in the accident were taken to hospital to be treated for bumps and bruises, while the driver remains in delicate condition.

In Porvenir, Pacuarito de Siquirres, Limón, a man lost control of his vehicle, falling into the river. He was able to walk away from the accident.

In El Parque, Los Chiles de Alajuela, a 43 year old man lost control, flipping his vehicle with four passengers. The injured are in hospital with serious injuries, the driver was declared dead at the scene.

But, perhaps the most tragic accident so far this Semana Santa was that on Thursday afternoon, on the Ruta 27, near Cuidad Colon, a head-on crash between two vehicles, that resulted in the death of a 17 year old girl.

Four others, including a 16 year old and local television personality, Maricruz Leiva, were seriously injured in the accident.

The driver, whose name was not released to the press, was found driving impaired and driving recklessly according to witnesses, is facing charges of manslaughter.
